I will be the first to admit, I have been on again and off again with Stitch Fix. I absolutely love this idea of receiving a box of goodies in the mail with a surprise of clothing that I can incorporate into my wardrobe. For me, it has been very hit and miss over the years that I have tried it. Sometimes I feel that my stylist truly understood me and other times I feel that my stylist and I did not connect. I think this just has a lot to do with the way I shop and I like to see everything before I intuitively get a feeling if a piece is the one for me. No one can be in my head to style my Fix, I know the stylists work very hard and this is not a reflection on them in any way. This is definitely a situation of “it’s not you, it’s me.” Confusing?

Allow Me to Elaborate

This may have a lot to do with the fact that I have trouble verbalizing what my look is (I don’t feel that it fits in a box) or that I don’t know what i always like until I see it. The questions and pictures in the profile are great, but It’s hard for me to describe my style within this. I definitely think I am in the minority on this topic. If I feel neutral about a piece, then I don’t need it. If it isn’t 100% yes, then it is an automatic no. It has to be a burning desire to never let that piece go and since many pieces I receive are a surprise, that is hard for me to anticipate. I suspect it is probably because I am a stylist, I just want access to some new pieces or fresh ideas for styling which is why I go up and down. It is intuition when I am choosing a piece so a bit tough to do in this method. I will be trying Rent the Runway Unlimited so stay tuned for that!

The Main Event

I was pleasantly surprised by several pieces in my last Fix shipment. There were two tops that could easily be transitioned between seasons (which was my request) by using a blazer or cardigan and dressed up with a skirt or pants or more casually worn with jeans. Versatility is a key ingredient for me and I try to wear pieces as many ways as I can. If I am not requesting something specific (white jeans, a romper, etc.) then I ask for pieces that can be worn for various parts of my day (that I list so they know what that means) and that I can dress up or down and layered for continuous wear throughout the seasons. I have found that the more specific that you can be in the note to your stylist, the better.

I loved these two tops that I received. The floral top is daniel rainn and I love the cap sleeve with the mesh and sleeve detail. I am wearing a Petite Small size and I’m typically not one for florals, but this one works for me.

The polka dot top is sweetGrey and I am also wearing a Petite Small. Both are great for layering or wearing on their own in the warmer months. They are lightweight material and this look can easily be recreated with items from your own closet. Have a polka dot or floral top? Feel free to use these posts as inspiration, sometimes all it takes is seeing a piece presented in a new way to find styling options and that spark of creativity!

If the Jean Fits

I was also surprised to find these ankle legging jeans from Liverpool that have a flat front panel, that I will admit are almost as comfortable as the jeans from my maternity wear days. The only downside is that I don’t wear anything tucked in since they have a flat panel (similar to maternity jeans but the panel is not stretchy), but they are great for a fitted look on the bottom paired with a top that covers the panel. They also come in petite size which is essential for me if I don’t want to have my jeans hemmed and I want to wear flats or sneakers. I am wearing a P27/4. The jeans have turned into a regular staple in my wardrobe. Note that the pockets in the front are stunt pockets just for aesthetics but the back pockets are functional.

As I mentioned above, I also recently signed up for a membership with Rent the Runway for unlimited clothing options. We’ll see how this works since I can choose my own options and I will be sure to post an update once I received my first shipment. Although I do like the element of surprise when I receive my Fix. It’s a bit like Christmas morning, I am giddy just waiting for my box to arrive!
