A Sustainable Option

My physical therapist recently told me about this genius idea of a product. We were originally chatting about sustainability changes we were making in our lives for 2020. Makeup wipes or using cotton with a makeup remover solution work well before cleansing. However, we wanted to eliminate the waste piece of the puzzle.

For me, washing my face with cleanser is not enough to remove my mascara, so I need a little something extra first. My makeup routine is pretty limited and mascara is the main (and sometimes only) item I wear.

This cloth removed my makeup easily and effectively and my skin reacted well to it also. I have very sensitive skin as well as psoriasis, so my skin angers easily.

The Details

When the product arrived, I washed it with my load of towels as recommended. You can use any detergent you would normally use and place it in the dryer with the towels. Fabric softener is a-okay too according to the directions. However, I started using standard white distilled vinegar a few years ago in place of fabric softener thanks to the search power of Google (started this during the potty training years, it’s a natural fabric softener and works like a charm to remove any odors).

There are two sides of the cloth, the short fiber for makeup removal and the longer fiber side for exfoliation. Add warm water to the cloth and side you want to use and then gently remove makeup in circular motions. The recommendation is to use the cloth in sections and wash it 1-2 times per week.

Ready for My Close-Up

Here we are, one eye has the mascara removed and one remains. You can also see the result of the makeup removal on the cloth. Enough said!

The cloth is expected to last 3 to 5 years. I’m loving this product so far. It’s so easy to use and works well! I also love that it is environmentally friendly. The packaging contains notes that say “1.3 billion wipes used daily” and “100 years for a makeup wipe to break down.” Whoa…every day is a school day!

Also, I love a witty remark. It’s my favorite kind of humor. The tag on the cloth has a note about washing instructions and underneath it says “Confused? Give it to your mom, she’ll know what to do.” I’m laughing for several reasons but mostly because I’m laughing at myself. I’m a mom and I don’t know what to do, which feels very ironic. Grateful to live in the age of Google!

I will also say that the cloth was easy to clean.  I rinsed it in the sink with warm water and the makeup came right off without a mark of mascara or foundation.

Are you ready to give it a try? What is your makeup removal routine?
