I interrupt this regularly scheduled programming from my favorite striped clothing to discuss the early summer Rent the Runway pieces I received. In this order I rented two blouses and a dress, all of which can be dressed up or down (one of my main requirements for wardrobe selection). For all three pieces, I ordered my standard size and found them all true to size for the fit….I love it when that happens. 😁

A Modern Neck Tie

First up, a striped shirt by Raoul. Wait, did I say no stripes in this post? Who am I kidding, but in all honesty this is a different kind of stripe than my standard nautical stripe. So…..moving on, let’s discuss the blouse. Blush pink, pale blue, brown, and an ivory color complete a soft palate within the stripe design along with a tie at the neckline and delicate detail on the sleeves.
The blouse is made of 100% silk so it is very flowy, light, and breathable material especially in the warm weather months. In the pictures, I have it paired with a high waisted pant (G. Label Mel High-Rise, from a previous season). Other options for inspiration with what is in your closet is to wear it with jeans or shorts (linen, chino, white) for casual. If you want to dress it up for the office, the blouse tucks in well with a tan dress pant or skirt. I think it would also be stunning for a formal office setting or business meeting under a suit with the tie at the neck adding “a little something extra” in the words of Elle Woods.

Plaid with a Side of Puff Sleeve
Next on the list is a shirt from The Great in a fun red plaid.

It is a cotton and linen blend so it is soft and also very comfortable. I love the fun and playful puff design on the sleeves. I find this piece to be one that can be dressed up or down even though at first glance it may seem like more of a casual item on the hanger due to the plaid and the material. Fear not, embrace your inner lumberjack chic persona, this is just as versatile as the silk blouse above. It tucks in well and can be paired with office appropriate slacks and skirts as well as with denim or white jeans and/or shorts in a casual setting. I love the relaxed look of the plaid that can be balanced with office or weekend wear!

The Print is in the Details

And last but definitely not least from this shipment is a Tory Burch printed dress. It has pockets, which I was thrilled to learn when it arrived!

It is a cotton and silk blend with a lining underneath the printed fabric. The v-shaped empire waist is very flattering and the puff sleeve balances out the waist and flowing bottom of the dress creating a balanced shape (this dress works very well if you have an hourglass shape!). The v-neck on the dress is not too low but instead just right. I really enjoyed the floral print design that was perfectly aligned with each seam and also the pockets, did I mention it has pockets?!

What shoes to wear? Lots of choices, I wore it with white platform sneakers in the pictures here but also have paired it with my Miller sandals from Tory Burch (I own them in the Makeup color) and an espadrille, wedge, or metallic sandal would all work well too.

What looks are you trying out this summer? How do you like to dress the same piece of clothing casually or for a more formal feel?
