A blazer is a staple in my wardrobe (Kate Middleton and I have something in common!!) and I have them in several colors and styles. A white blazer is probably my favorite of them all. It is so crisp and clean and can be worn year round.

I recently wanted to find a new white blazer to replace my previous one which was about 15 years old, had seen much better days, and was sadly beyond repair. When I saw the Gibson Notch Collar Cotton Blend Blazer at Nordstrom, I fell in love immediately. The modern update on the blazer with the notch collar was what sold me on this style. If you were to unfold a traditional suiting collar on a blazer, this is the design you would see around the collar. The notches in the collar are perfectly placed near the collarbone for a flattering fit.

Dishing the Details
The blazer comes in Regular and Petite and several colors: Ivory (basically white that you see in my photos), Black, Grey, Pink Smoke (aka Camel), and Red. If ordering the Petite sizing there is a style note on Nordstrom’s website that suggests ordering one size up from your normal. I did not read that properly and ordered my standard Petite size and I had to exchange it for the next size up. It was too tight on my upper arms and shoulders and fortunately Nordstrom is wonderful with returns and exchanges. The sizing seems to only be an issue for Petite and Regular can continue on as usual.

Besides the notched collar, another fun difference with this blazer is that it is a more casual knit made of a cotton blend so it is not a traditional suiting material that you might be expecting.  That does not stop it from being a versatile piece to dress up or down. I honestly think the cotton blend material is more comfortable and moves more easily but is thick enough to hold the structure of the blazer just like a suiting material would do.

I also love the polka dot lining with slit cuffs on the sleeve.  I often end up rolling up my sleeve one or two rolls and get really excited when there is a lining with a fun design.  Plus the slit cuff provides a more flattering fit especially if you are wearing a watch or bracelet so that your sleeve doesn’t have to fight for inventory of your wrist and create a bunched up look.

White Summer Suit – A New Office Option

I have the blazer paired here with a white J.Crew bermuda short from several years ago and a pink tank for a pop of color creating a white summer suit look.  Depending on your office dress code, I would suggest this as an alternative in the office during the summer months as long as the shorts are longer and a similar length to a skirt or dress you would wear.  But obviously follow your office culture requirements as a priority! This is also a great option for a summer event if you are in the mood for something different than a sundress or jumpsuit/romper.

Expect to see this blazer on repeat throughout the year, just giving you warning now! I have plans of wearing it in all sorts of ways, my favorite being with jeans and a graphic t-shirt for a casual pulled together look.

Are blazers part of your staple wardrobe? How do you like to wear them?
