Always Learning

I recently had a facial at the Ritz Carlton in Charlotte and my very knowledgeable aesthetician informed me that…..I can use more than one face mask at a time! Whoa – mind blown, why did I not think of this?!

We were discussing my combination skin (oily t-zone and dryer on the cheeks and elsewhere) and she asked if I used a mask. I explained that I usually don’t because I can’t decide what type to put on my face. I didn’t want to use a hydration mask on my t-zone and didn’t feel that I needed to pull more oils out of the remainder of my face since it was already on the dry side.

She suggested I use both! Apply the mask on the parts of my face that needed each specific treatment. At the time of trying this, we are entering winter and the air is dryer so I went for a green clay mask from S.W. Basics for my t-zone and a Yes to coconut hydration mask for the remainder of my face.

She also suggested that if I was using a mask that removed oils (like green clay or charcoal) that I massage in one layer to seep into the pores to pull out the oil and then apply a second layer over the first for the designated waiting time. Excellent advice and exactly what I did for this exercise.

I must say, I am hooked on this method. Depending on the time of year, my skin may have different requirements but I will continue to practice this method as needed. My skin felt refreshed and actually since I used the green clay, my t-zone has not exhibited any signs of oil. Two exciting discoveries in one swoop – green clay and also make your own combination mask. Genius, thanks Ritz Spa Charlotte!

Do you use masks? What are your favorites?
