A Pop of Color
I have been on the lookout for a fun and flattering dress and when I saw this one from Gibson (in collaboration with Natalie Kennedy) available at Nordstrom, I did not hesitate to place my order immediately.
The pop of color (I chose the Hot Pink, but it also comes in Blue and Yellow) makes for a fun statement outfit for a night out or a warm weather event. Four tiers of ruffles and an off-the-shoulder design create a festive feel instantly when you try it on. There are no zippers, closures, or any other hardware to manage. The dress just slips on and off you go!
It’s very comfortable to wear, the shoulders stay in place (which can be hard to find!), the lining inside of the dress is form fitting, and the placement of the ruffles create a very forgiving feature so you’ll be comfortable all evening, no matter how much you eat or drink. The tiering of the ruffles also makes this dress a good choice for multiple body types.
Styling Options
I chose to style the dress (for a date night with my husband (shall we call him Mr. Bookworm?!) with a light gold heeled sandal (purchased 11 years ago as my wedding shoe from Ann Taylor) and a green tear drop earring (purchased 8 years ago from Stella & Dot). The green and pink compliment each other in the same way a bright pink flower works together with its green stem and leaves.
Wondering what bright colors to mix?
Tip: Look at a garden for inspiration or a flower bouquet on Pinterest or Instagram, if you like the color combinations in the garden or arrangement, chances are you’ll like it for your styling as well!
I would generally suggest a simple metallic, nude, or skin toned shoe or sandal to allow the dress to steal the show since it is the main event. I think this look could be great with your hair down or pulled back into a low bun with earrings to channel your inner flamenco dancer depending on your mood. It’s hard not to dance in this beauty, I think it’s the ruffles!
Did I mention that it is machine washable and only $68? The inventory on Nordstrom’s website has been restocked since I purchased mine, but pop over soon if you want to purchase one. I have a feeling they are going to sell out again. In that event, I linked a few alternative fun ruffle dresses to check out just in case from Nordstrom, Amazon, and another from Amazon!
And in addition to this fun dress, who can deny the beauty of a low country sunset? It’s so peaceful and I love the way the sun shines through the live oak trees and spanish moss to cast a golden hue on the water.
How would you style this dress? What are your favorite dresses for warm weather months?
