I love a pulled together look especially when it is virtually effortless.
An easy, messy bun and this super soft turtleneck sweater from Athleta are two of my current favorites.
My friend recently showed me the magic of this easy bun. Depending on hair type and thickness, a slightly different method may work for you. My hair is shorter and thicker than my friend and we had to alter the method that works for her when practicing on my hair. There are lots of variables with hair and you can tweak it however it works best for your hair.
I find that if my hair is curled, it works best because the hair just falls in an organized mess more easily. If it is straight, it just kind of sticks out and doesn’t cooperate as easily and works better for a non-messy bun.
Start by pulling the hair up high onto the crown of your head. I found that it works best with a telephone cord hair tie to allow more flexibility. Place the hair through the cord just like you would at the start of a ponytail but on the second and final loop, only pull the hair halfway through and allow it to gently fall around the cord. If I am just pulling it up for casual reasons, I won’t bother to pin it down but if I want it to stay in place or if your hair is shorter you may want to use a few bobby pins to secure the pieces in the place you like.
Sweater Weather
Now…over to the sweater. It is wool-cashmere blend and I am wearing a size Small for a relaxed fit. It works well with leggings, jeans or you can dress it up. It is incredibly soft and cozy, two requirements for me in a sweater. I like that the turtleneck can be folded down or left up for a chilly day especially if you opt to wear your hair up. I am always drawn to a soft piece of clothing and before I tried it on I thought it might be too boxy for my frame, but it is a nice relaxed fit that doesn’t overwhelm. I am also loving the detail on the shoulders, it gives the sweater more shape and a little extra something. Details can make all the difference in a piece.
Do you have an easy updo to share? I’m always looking for one, my personal Pinterest board is full of ones I have yet to try…mostly intimidation factor!?
