Neutrals, so versatile and so easy to mix and match for all occasions.
Today I am sharing a few easy ways to pair neutral pieces this fall to create looks from clothing you already have in your closet.
Camel always looks luxe regardless of the material or the type of clothing. It could be a coat, sweater, blazer, cardigan, or scarf. It’s one of those timeless colors that elevates any look and instantly looks expensive. While I used camel in these pictures, you could easily create this look with your favorite neutrals. Grey or a dusty rose/light pink are a few more of my regulars. Dare I say leopard print is also a great neutral. 😉
Choose a base color
There are so many ways to style neutrals but let’s stick to basics today. Create a base color with black pants or jeans and a black top. Add a belt if you like and layer on your camel top layer whether that is a sweater or blazer.
Cardigan | Blazer | Shirt | Black Jeans | Belt
It works just as easily and looks completely different by switching the base color to all white and adding a brown belt. I am definitely on team wear white all year long (the original reason behind it is totally outdated) and white is a fresh and clean option to include in your wardrobe year round.
Cardigan | Blazer | Shirt | White Jeans | Belt
I am wearing the crew neck t-shirt from Amazon Essentials but I am also including links for the V-Neck and Long Sleeve Crew Neck depending on your preferences. The material is so soft and comfortable and also thicker than most t-shirts so you don’t need an extra layer underneath.
Belts and Shoes
Emblem belts are everywhere and if you are interested in trying the trend, you can definitely go with save or splurge depending on your love of belts and budget. I am not a huge wearer of belts, so I went with the save option and purchased this two-pack of belts from Amazon. There are several color combinations to choose from in the pack and I love that the extra belt after fastening stays on the inside so I don’t have to strategically wrap or secure it.
If you want to go all out, here is the link for the Gucci Logo Belt that you see all around Instagram and available at Nordstrom. It looks fantastic!
Amazon Belt | Target Leopard Boots | Madewell Leopard Boots (alternative and similar)
To stay in the spirit of neutral and the animal print trend, I wore a leopard bootie with each of these looks. The color combination in the leopard print ties in the neutral colors in the clothing. You could just as easily wear a solid colored boot or shoe as well. That’s the great thing about neutrals, so easy to mix and match and endless combinations depending on your mood for the day.
Accessorize
For a bit of a statement and some pizzazz, I also included these pearl earrings from Stella & Dot that I am loving. Let me tell you, they are practically weightless they are so light! Larger earrings tend to have quite a bit of weight to them and pull on your ear leaving them to feel uncomfortable and your ear feeling sore. Then you just take out your earrings and then forget it, you won’t wear them again no matter how pretty they are and no one wants that. Enter these pearl earrings, so light and they add a bit of fun to any outfit because pearls go with everything!
If you don’t want to do a statement earring, pop in your favorite studs for a simple and classic look. I got out of the habit of wearing larger earrings when I had small children (if you ever had a baby or toddler pull on your earring, you know what I am talking about!) so my standard is a gold heart stud or pearls but I am getting back into larger earrings now that my girls are 6 and 4.
I hope this gave you a bit of inspiration for combinations that you have in your wardrobe already. You can use these all black or all white base color tricks with any top layer color you desire. Which look will you try next?
