If I think back to my middle school days and summer time, I remember riding my bike around the neighborhood, reading, playing with friends, and of course my staple shoe of choice at the time – a classic Keds white sneaker . For whatever reason, I don’t remember wearing sandals or flip flops in the summer but my Keds  were always there.

I have been on the lookout for a white platform lace up sneaker that I can wear with jeans, dresses, or shorts. I heard an advertisement for Keds on a podcast a few months ago and I decided to check out their website. I am here to tell you that Keds has expanded far beyond their classic Champion style shoe that I mentioned above. In addition, they now have platform, slip on (canvas and leather), glitter, sandals, boots, and super cute designs in collaboration with kate spade and Rifle Paper Co. with styles for women and kids and even a wedding line of shoes. I am so excited to be returning to this brand and their comfortable shoes!

A Little Bit of Sparkle

For this most recent order, I decided on the Women’s Triple Iridescent. They have the same design as the classic shoe I remember, just with an added platform. There is a Dream Foam technology in the footbed and they are very comfortable on the sole of my foot and full of cushion just as the name promises.

I loved the iridescent fabric that allows them to look just barely off white but with a bit of sparkle when the sun or light hits them just right. With this fabric, I’m not as concerned about keeping them super clean all of the time and feel like they can hide a bit of wear and tear better than the standard white canvas. I’ll keep you posted how that is going over time!

More Than a Sneaker – Empowerment as a Mission
In other fun fact news, did you know that Keds created the first women’s sneaker in 1916?? I was not aware of that! They have a lot of information on their website about their history. Even better is that Keds states on their website that their “goal was and still is to empower women to be who they want to be and go where they want to go.” Now THAT is a brand I can definitely get behind. I’m planning to order both of my daughters a pair of Keds from the Girls section for back to school later this summer and proudly wear mine around town as well. There’s something about carrying on that message from the company and into our lives that feels empowering just by the purchase and wearing of the shoes. With each step in my Keds, I walk closer toward my goals and I encourage others around me to do the same in a supportive and collaborative way.

Where will your Keds take you?
