When you find a dress with all of the right details, the right fit, and versatility, you scoop one up quickly. Enter the Women’s Gibson X Hi Sugarplum! Cavallo Ruffle Neck Date Dress, Size Small – Black
I ordered this ruffle neck date night dress designed by Gibson in collaboration with one of my favorite bloggers Cassie Freeman of Hi Sugarplum. If you don’t follow her, you absolutely should go do that right now before continuing on with this blog post. I’ll be right here waiting to tell you all about the dress when you get back 🤗
Ready? Great! This dress comes in nine colors and prints as well as regular, petite, and plus sizing. I get over the moon excited when a design I love is available in petite sizes! I ordered my usual size in petites and it fits well. I probably could have gone down one size but sometimes it can be a bit tight on the arms for me. If you are in between sizes, order one size down to start and go from there.
The Details
Let’s talk details first before we get into styling. First and most importantly, there are pockets. I’ve said it once and I’ll continue to say it, pockets in dresses are fantastic. There is also a lovely high ruffle neck and a beautiful tie closure in the back coupled with a keyhole. This shift dress fits loosely while still magically providing shape to your figure. Not to mention the dress is incredibly comfortable and washable as well.
While this dress speaks for itself and looks lovely as a statement piece on its own, I wanted to highlight a few additional ways it can be worn for inspiration.
Statement Piece
When wearing the dress for a date night or event, I want it to shine in all of its glory which is why I chose to wear a neutral shoe. Not only does the shoe blend in with my skin tone to keep focus on the dress but it also elongates the leg. Add a fun cocktail ring or bracelets and you’re off to dance the night away.
The Office
Add heels and a blazer and you are ready for the office or a client meeting. With this print, I opted for a basic black blazer and patent leather d’orsay heels to allow the print to be the star of the show. No one will even suspect that you are all business on the outside and a party underneath the blazer. Because the dress fits loose and flowy, it naturally conforms to the blazer structure and provides balance.
Consider it a bonus if you have a date night after work and you can remove the blazer and optionally switch shoes depending on your mood.
Cooler Weather
I added the moto jacket I am renting from Rent the Runway, black tights, and black suede booties. This dress can be worn year round! Chilly date night? This dress still has your back! I like the edgy look the moto jacket gives to the feminine and flowy material of the shift dress. You can definitely opt to wear tights and a cardigan or blazer to the office as well in the cooler months. Plus, with a cardigan you can even let the tie closure fabric hang out and down the back for a little something extra.
I hope you love the dress as much as I do and see the versatility it offers. I had so much trouble choosing what print or color to get. They are all beautiful and excellent choices, you can’t go wrong!
