Welcome to the first edition of a new series I am calling Try it on Tuesday! In these posts, I’ll try on clothing, shoes, and/or accessories either in stores or what I ordered online, discuss the fit of the pieces, and options for styling.
Let’s get started! Today’s edition is all about Banana Republic. For no specific reason, it has been a while since I shopped in this store. I decided to return to check out the latest options recently and was very pleasantly surprised with both the clothing choices and the fit. Banana Republic also carries Petite sizes which is a big help for me (I am 5’2”) although I can wear standard sizing but do require tailoring depending on the length.
Cropped V-Neck Jumpsuit
First up, the Cropped V-Neck Jumpsuit in Black (also comes in Pink). I saw this jumpsuit flashing before my eyes on several blogs in the last few months but I waited. Well, patience paid off in this case because it was more than 40% off! It comes in Standard, Petite, and Tall sizes. The top is fitted and then drapes into a more flowy pant, which is very comfortable. The material for the belt can be tied in a bow or in a loose knot and one of the big selling points for me is of course the pockets!
Another significant selling point? I was able to use the zipper in the back by myself without feeling like a contortionist. It can be worn just as it is with flats, heels, or sandals. I can also picture it with a jean jacket and sneakers (like the ones from this Keds post. It’s great for the office as well, just add a blazer or a cardigan and you’ll be prepared for either cooler temps or the full blast air conditioning.
Mid-Rise Skinny Jean
Next on the list, the Mid-Rise Skinny Jean. I actually took these into the dressing room with me so I could see a few pieces with jeans and had no intention of buying them. Well, I had to have them because the fit is fantastic and very slimming. The pockets are precisely placed to help with the slimming effect and the mid-rise (9.75”) fit is very comfortable in a very goldilocks way, not too low and not too high. The sizing is available in Regular, Petite, and Tall and they are also 40% off at the time this post is published.
If you are looking for a new pair of skinny jeans, I highly recommend this pair. A quick mention that you’ll see in a future post, the black t-shirt I am wearing is from Amazon and very comfortable. You can find that in a two-pack of white and black shirts here.
Strappy Camisole and Striped Blazer
Another piece that I took into the dressing room with me was a Strappy Camisole and it layered so well under the blazer and utility jacket that I instantly imagined it as a staple layering piece in my wardrobe with cardigans and blazers. The camisole comes in Regular and Petite sizes, has adjustable straps, and it is lined so it has a very soft flow to it. The camisole is also machine washable and part of Banana Republic’s easy care fabric.
I have it paired with a Linen Cotton Blazer that I love. It’s a stripe and I can’t say no to stripes. I loved the pop of blue underneath the notch collar on this fitted blazer. The sleeves are ¾ length and easy to wear as is or rolled up. Wear it to the office or with jeans, it’s a great piece for spring and summer. Although I have a feeling I will be wearing it into the cooler seasons.
Merino Sweaters
Next up is the Washable V-Neck Merino Sweater, available in four different colors in both Regular and Petite sizing. I picked up the black and camel to replace two sweaters in my closet of the same colors that needed a refresh. The sweater is very comfortable and a great transitional piece. It is lightweight enough for a cool day on its own or also to add a light jacket. Once the weather turns cold, this will be great with a scarf and a button down underneath. If you like the layering button down shirt option, I recommend going one size up. This is another versatile piece that can be worn on the weekend or in the office.
Utility Jacket
The final piece in this try it on session is the Twill Utility Jacket available in two colors and both Regular and Petite sizing. The jacket has pockets to store any of your items and a hidden drawstring waist which gives the jacket a clean line while keeping the string on the inside. The sleeves are fully lined and can be worn full length or rolled up. It’s always nice to have a casual transition jacket for the shoulder seasons that is layering friendly.
That’s a wrap on this week’s edition! What pieces are you checking out at Banana Republic? Questions on styling? Drop them in the comments below!

Very impressed! I feel very relaxed with your style (visual & spoken) and feel like I will continue reading. Despite the fact that many of my clothes I’ve had for 10± years. #TrueConfessions 🤭
